Be clear about the purpose

Before sending a survey, decide which decisions the responses will inform. Broad questionnaires can create a large amount of data without making the next action clearer. A small number of focused questions often produces a more useful conversation.

Make it safe to answer

Explain how responses will be used and who can see them. Do not promise anonymity if a small team or identifiable comments make that promise unrealistic. Invite honest feedback without pressuring people to participate or trying to identify individual respondents.

Close the loop

Share the main themes, including the uncomfortable ones. Explain what the business will change, what needs more investigation, and what cannot change immediately. Assign an owner and a realistic timeline to each agreed action.

Keep listening between surveys

Regular manager conversations and simple feedback channels matter as much as the questionnaire. Revisit the actions and ask whether people have noticed a difference. Trust grows when employees see that raising an issue can lead to a thoughtful response.
